High Hopes for Pets review

November 24, 2012

High Hopes for Pets recently sent me a box full of dog treats for my new dog Brielle. I hadn’t bought any treats when I got Brielle, just didn’t think about it, so I really appreciated getting this package from High Hopes, and I’m sure Brielle appreciated it too!

I am only guessing at what Brielle’s life was like before I got her. She was found starving and abandoned by the people I got her from. I’m looking into all natural treats with human grade ingredients for her, trying to get her as healthy as I can and keep her healthy. She was having some digestive issues from the cheap dog food I bought at first. It’s not an extremely cheap dog food, but it’s not the good premium dog food either, and it is full of red dyes too. So I have been looking at better food and treats for her. One thing I realized about her when we got this package of treats is I don’t think she has ever been given treats much, if at all. And she was probably punished for eating anything that was not in her food bowl, or punished for begging for food. She shows very little interest in food unless it is in her bowl. I have been giving her lots of these treats we got from High Hopes, and she is starting to show a little more interest when I ask her if she wants a treat!

Here is what came in our package:

High Hopes’ treats are all-natural, contain real organic meat, and are developed in conjunction with a renowned pet nutritionist. Brielle has liked all of these treats. She was a little hesitant on the Lamb Bites and Beef Bites Mity Meaty Bites, but after sniffing for a bit she did eat them all up! She seems to like all the cookies the most! We got one Peanut Butter & Banana, one Peanut Butter & Pumpkin, and a bag full of their new Peanut Butter, Bacon & Cheddar. I gave her the 2 sample cookies right when we got them and she ate them right up!

I’ve been giving her the Peanut Butter, Bacon, and Cheddar mostly as rewards, but also sometimes “just because” since I want her to start getting more excited about treats. The more I give her, she is getting more excited about getting treats. She gets one whenever she does her business quickly outside, and I’m using them as training treats too. She does know a few commands but I’m still testing her out and finding out what commands she knows, so I offer her a treat when she follows a command. Davey also asks to give her a treat sometimes, so I let him give her one when he asks.

The last item we got was a Celebration Cupcakes Kit. This kit makes 6 cupcakes for your dog, and includes everything you need except milk. It includes 6 silicone baking cups, frosting mix, cake mix, and instructions. I’m not much of a cook, but these were very simple to make and took no time at all!

This is the first time I’ve fed Brielle on a plate, instead of in her food bowl or handing her a treat. The serving size for her was 4 cupcakes, so I put them on the plate and set aside the other 2 for later. I gave her the plate and she immediately put 2 cupcakes in her mouth and tried to run off, I guess to hide them like she hides her bones??? I wouldn’t let her out of the kitchen with them — that icing is sticky! So finally she ate the 2 in her mouth, and went back to eat the other 2. She scarfed these down though and wound up getting sick afterward. When I give her the other 2 I’m going to break them up into smaller pieces for her. As fast as she ate them, I’d say they were a big hit though! These cupcake kits would be great for celebrating your dog’s birthday, or to give to someone who is celebrating bringing a new dog into their family, or to celebrate the holidays. Any of these items would make a great Christmas gift for your furry best friend!

One amazing thing about High Hopes (besides the great treats!) is that they donate a portion of their sales to the High Hopes for Pets Foundation, a separate not-for-profit organization that in turn donates to local shelters and rescue groups across the country. This Holiday Season, High Hopes is doubling their donations. During November and December, 7% of every sale will be given to the Foundation to further its work in helping homeless pets.

If you belong to a rescue or shelter group, you can apply for a grant through High Hopes for Pets. The next round of grants will be disbursed in January 2013. Applications are now being accepted at www.highhopesforpets.com/foundation until December 28th, 2012.

High Hopes is giving away a gift basket that includes winner’s choice of 8oz Mity Meaty Bite, winner’s choice of 11oz cookie flavor, and a party pack of cupcakes (makes 12 cupcakes)! Retail value is $31.99. This giveaway is open to US only.  To enter, go to my review on Mommy and Me Giveaways!

This sounds like a good company. Do they have cat treats as well, or just dogs?

Thank you for saving Brielle. You are doing a great job with her; don’t worry about icing out of the kitchen, she will clean it up (dogs are good like that). God Bless :)
