Now for an update about me…

So you might have seen the update about Davey I posted a little while ago.  Now how about an update about myself?  :) This has been a crazy few months, hence the lack of posts – reviews or personal.  If you’ve been following my blog you know I moved in with my mom in January.  Any kind of changes in my life can easily either make me manic or put me in a funk.  Whether it’s a good change or a bad change makes no difference on whether I will be come manic or depressed. You would think a good change like moving in with my mom, something I was excited about, would make me manic, right?  Nope, I wound up in a funk, which only got worse because of dealing with some problems with my teenage brother and getting stressed out about that.  I finally pulled out of the funk about 2 or 3 weeks ago.  I’ve been playing catchup on both blogs and doing just fine. Then over the past week or so I’ve noticed I’m very easily irritable, and while I feel fine in the morning and early afternoon, as the day goes on I start feeling [...]

Maybe he’s not autistic…

If you’ve been following my blog, you’ve probably wondered why I always say “I think Davey is autistic” and then there is nothing about him being in therapy or being evaluated or anything.  We went through an evaluation when I was away at college about a year ago, and I also had him in language and occupational therapy at that time.  They determined at his evaluation that he is NOT autistic. I was relieved and we continued therapy for his language and developmental delays, but I didn’t look into the possibility of autism anymore.  Also there were a lot of changes going on over that period of time, such as moving away from my family to go to college, Davey going into daycare for the first time ever, etc.  His behavior was awful at that time due to all the changes and I think it set him back in some ways developmentally. Shortly after we finished his evaluation, in March of last year, I dropped out of college and moved home to my mom’s house.  We stayed there for about 3 months then moved into our old house that my stepmom owns.  So there were more changes in Davey’s life. [...]

The Joys of Being Bipolar

I am finally out of a bad funk that I was in for about a month or so.  I let myself get overwhelmed and stressed out with my 2 blogs and all I needed to do, and while I kept plugging away at it for most of that time, the week before last I just didn’t do anything.  I also tended to neglect Just Davey & Me, while focusing more on Mommy and Me Giveaways.  This is the reason for the lack of giveaways lately. I took most of a week off from both blogs to just chill out and not stress about it all and that helped quite a bit.   Last week was our Home Sweet Home event on Mommy and Me Giveaways, and I did my best to get back in the swing of things then.  I got behind a couple of days.  One night I even skipped my mania meds because I get the most accomplished when I stay up all night.  Well that backfired, since I wasn’t really manic to begin with and I have been so tired lately.  I got a couple of posts done on Mommy and Me, then got a tiny bit [...]

Dieting and Quitting Smoking

Dieting and quitting smoking — the two don’t really go together, do they?  Well that is what I am about to be doing, both of them!  I had a doctor’s appointment today to get refills on my inhaler, and this led to the decision to go on a diet, exercise, and quit smoking. I have been smoking regularly since I was 13 (and on occasion until then since I was 10).  I’m 29 now.  I’ve also had asthma since I was a baby, so of course I really never should have started smoking, but kids think they are invincible and don’t think about the long-term effects.  I started smoking because it was “cool” and honestly, because I liked it and how it made me feel.  But now, many years later, it has taken its toll on me.  About 5 years ago I had to see a pulmonologist because my asthma was so bad.  It flares up bad about twice a year.  But that year it was flaring up much more often than that.  Until my doctor finally prescribed a nebulizer for me, I was in the ER about once a week getting breathing treatments because my inhaler wasn’t enough to [...]

Brielle went to her new home

Sorry for the delayed update on this, but Brielle went to her new home, and I think it was a good home for her.  It is not the one I mentioned in my post about having to find her a new home.  That one didn’t work out, but a nice gay couple in Memphis contacted me. They were looking for a medium to large size dog and I texted with one of them off and on for a whole day talking about Brielle and answering questions and he was sure she would be a good fit for them.  They have a fenced in yard, and live near a huge park in Memphis that has a dog park, and they go to that park a lot.  I did warn them to wait to take her to the dog park until they’ve had her a little while because she is a runner and I didn’t want her to get away from them! They came to meet her and decided she was perfect for them!  They loaded up their truck with all her stuff.  They had a small truck and Brielle was so spoiled that all her stuff completely filled up the back [...]

Finding Brielle A New Home :(

DSCN3665

As much as I hate to say it, I am looking for a new home for Brielle.  While she and Davey did learn how to play better together, she is still too big a dog with him when she gets excited and still hurts him accidentally.  I would have stuck it out, but I’m making some decisions about moving into a new home, and I won’t be able to keep her when I move. Davey also has not learned how to treat Brielle, although she has done better about being more gentle with him.  I catch him slapping her and sometimes even climbing on her, and while she will put up with it great, with little to no reaction, I do not want him treating her this way, and I have not found a way to get him to understand he can’t do that to a dog even if they let him. I am most likely moving somewhere that does not allow dogs, and if this plan doesn’t work out, I will be renting a house somewhere else and it is hard to find one that allows dogs and even if they do allow dogs, I would have a pet [...]

Definitely need a fence!

So far I have been taking Brielle out on a leash because my fence is falling down in the back and I am being sent an in-ground fence (like Invisible Fence) for review.  They told me it can take up to a month for me to get the in-ground fence and other products they are sending me because they were busy from a trade show, and if I haven’t received it by the end of the year to let her know.  I was hoping to have it in time for Bringing Home Brielle, but that obviously isn’t happening.  Brielle definitely needs a fence of some sort.  When I take her out on her retractable leash I have to let her run laps around me for a bit because she really wants to run and play outside! When I go out to check the mail or take the trash out, if Davey isn’t up or is in his seat eating, I just go on out,and I tell Brielle “No, Stay!” before I walk out the door, and so far that has been just fine and she hasn’t tried to follow me out.  I only shut the storm door then, which is [...]

A blogger’s life, for me anyway…

I have been asked by quite a few people how to start a review blog.  My friends and family see me getting all this free stuff, and they think it’s awesome and want to do it themselves.  Most people don’t realize the kind of work that goes into a review blog.  Most people don’t see the hours I put into my other blog, and will soon be putting into this blog too.  I always tell them upfront it is a LOT more work than it sounds like and even spend up to an hour typing out instructions on how to start a blog.  Not a single one of them has actually started a blog.  They all apparently decide it is more work than they want and change their minds.  Here is a little peek into my blogger life for you.  I know this isn’t how it is for every blogger out there, but my other blog has become a very successful blog (and hopefully this one will too!) and it is because my co-bloggers and I put in this kind of work to it.  Here is a peek at my blogger life this year… I have been working myself to [...]

Brielle’s Vet Appointment

Briellecloseup

Brielle had her checkup and shots today and she did very well at it. Much better than Davey was!  It was a handful taking both of them, and I didn’t see my stepmom’s offer to watch Davey for me until after we got home.  Brielle weighs 55lb and they said she is a good weight.  She has filled out a bit more just since I got her.  I guess I can stop feeding her extra now!  They also said she is about 10 months old, and probably still growing.  I am happy about this because I only like big dogs, and to me, the bigger the better!  And she is growing up WITH Davey so even if she gets bigger I don’t think it should be an issue with Davey.  I was so glad to hear she is so young, because this means she and Davey can grow up together, and she will hopefully be in our lives for many more years. She tested negative for worms or heartworms, but we won’t know for sure on the heartworms until she has been on heartworm preventative on time every month for 6 months.  She got her first round of shots, and [...]

Learning how to play together, finally!

No Brielle in the photo because every time I tried to catch a picture or video of them actually playing in the box, Brielle would stop playing!

Thanks everyone for the comments on my previous post about Davey being a “monster” lately.  I really do appreciate any feedback from my readers, but we are not getting rid of Brielle, she is already part of the family. Things are getting better the last few days, and Davey and Brielle are learning how to play together without hurting each other.  Brielle is learning she needs to be more careful with Davey, so she’s not nipping or scratching him anymore, but she does occasionally knock him down on accident.  When he does get knocked down, he usually laughs about it now unless he falls against something and it hurts.  With Brielle learning to be more careful, Davey is happy that he can play with her now.  I only have to get on to them when they start to get a little TOO rowdy, but generally they are okay together.  They played together a long time yesterday afternoon.  Davey climbed into a big box Brielle’s new dog bed came in and closed himself up in it.  Brielle would start sniffing and poking her nose at the flaps of the box trying to go in after him, and Davey would open it [...]
