
I just got an email on my Mommy and Me Giveaways email about this amazing project and I wanted to share it here as well. The project is a documentary film called The Deadly Link. This documentary focuses on the connections between animal abuse, domestic violence and child abuse. Did you know: Nationwide studies have shown that up to 71% of women (with companion animals) entering women’s shelters reported that their batterer had injured, maimed, killed or threatened their animals for revenge or to control them psychologically. In a 2007 study of battered women, 48% of respondents reported that animal abuse had occurred “often” during the past 12 months. Children exposed to domestic violence are three times more likely to be cruel to animals than children living in nonviolent households. Often it is the pets who are forgotten in this cycle. The Deadly Link project is aimed at creating an educational tool for social service providers, police officers, family physicians, veterinarians and others who can make a difference in stopping the violence against animals.
