Learning how to play together, finally!

No Brielle in the photo because every time I tried to catch a picture or video of them actually playing in the box, Brielle would stop playing!

Thanks everyone for the comments on my previous post about Davey being a “monster” lately.  I really do appreciate any feedback from my readers, but we are not getting rid of Brielle, she is already part of the family. Things are getting better the last few days, and Davey and Brielle are learning how to play together without hurting each other.  Brielle is learning she needs to be more careful with Davey, so she’s not nipping or scratching him anymore, but she does occasionally knock him down on accident.  When he does get knocked down, he usually laughs about it now unless he falls against something and it hurts.  With Brielle learning to be more careful, Davey is happy that he can play with her now.  I only have to get on to them when they start to get a little TOO rowdy, but generally they are okay together.  They played together a long time yesterday afternoon.  Davey climbed into a big box Brielle’s new dog bed came in and closed himself up in it.  Brielle would start sniffing and poking her nose at the flaps of the box trying to go in after him, and Davey would open it [...]

Davey is being a MONSTER lately!!!

He looks like such an angel, doesn't he?

I don’t know if this has anything to do with Davey’s autism or if it is just plain old stubbornness and hardheadedness!  But since we got our new dog, Brielle, a few days ago, Davey is being an absolute monster!  First of all there are the problems with him and Brielle.  She has gotten playful in the past couple of days, and gets really frisky pretty often.  Davey really wants to play with her but he is too little!  He keeps getting her to follow him into his room, and tries to play with her in there, and then next thing I know he’s crying because she knocked him down or nipped at him or scratched him.  I tell him to come here, I kiss it to make it all better, then next thing I know he is in his room doing the exact same thing and getting hurt all over again.  He never learns! Then there is the problem of him getting Brielle to follow him into our closets.  Our closets are one big closet — someone took the wall in between them out sometime before I moved in here so they could put a hanging bar in the [...]

Routines, Routines, Routines…

With Davey everything is a routine.  And I mean everything.  Everything we do or nearly everything we say is some sort of routine.  If he says something, I have to respond a certain way.  We have to stick to the same routine of how we do things every day.  So today, to stick to routine, Davey is actually in bed and it is only 4:45.  No, he doesn’t normally go to bed this early — THAT is not the routine!  But after me being up all night, the day has dragged on and I thought it was later than it was. So when he asked for dinner a little after 4, I didn’t realize it was more like snack time (although he did already have snack at 2).  So I fixed his dinner, he ate, and after he eats dinner it is time for bed (usually around 6pm, not 4!).  So we got ready for bed, went through our big elaborate bedtime routine, then I left his room and happened to notice it was only 4:45!  But if I had tried to get him to play or watch TV after dinner for a while, he would have thrown a fit.  [...]
